Reading (15 minutes)
Your child needs to be reading for a total of 15 minutes nightly. This can be a story of their choice. They need to be reading for enjoyment. Ask them questions about the book when they have finished. (Who are the main characters?, What is the setting? Was there a problem and did it get resolved? How did the story end?, etc.)
Fluency Directions
Each night your child should read the fluency passage sent home. Every night they will read it 3 different times. (By Thursday, they will have read it a total of 9 times.) When they read it to you, time them for 1 minute. As they read follow along and make note of errors (words you help them with, they skip, or they read incorrectly). After timing them for 1 minute, count the number of words read and subtract the errors. This gives you their score (words correct per minute). Record this on their fluency passage page. On Thursday they need to answer the comprehension questions at the bottom of the fluency page. Please return the fluency page in their take home folder every Friday.
Please remember to sign their agenda when this has been completed each night. This is how I know it was completed.
